Chiropractic Care

Orthotics is a branch of medical practice that deals with design and implementation of orthoses. An orthosis is a device that is externally applied to modify or improve the structural and functional aspects of a person’s neuromuscular as well as skeletal system. It’s the responsibility of an orthotist to prescribe, manufacture and manage the orthosis. An orthosis can be used to treat a range of physical conditions including controlling, guiding and limiting a limb; restricting movement in a particular direction; assisting with general movement and much more. They are often used by athletes to help improve their performance by promoting proper alignment.

How does it Work?

Orthosis has three major classifications – upper limb, lower limb and spinal. These are further divided into subcategories based on the affected area. Orthoses – or orthotics – are manufactured from various material types such as fabric, elastic, metals, carbon fiber, thermoplastics or a combination of these materials.

At Spinal Touch, we offer various custom fit orthotics to clients at both of our wellness centres, in Mississauga and Scarborough. Many healthcare plans cover orthotics services.
